Gynecomastia Surgery

What is Gynecomastia Surgery?

Gynecomastia surgery is a surgical intervention performed to correct breast enlargement in men. Gynecomastia can occur for a number of reasons, including hormone imbalances, genetic factors, obesity, medication use, or other medical conditions. Gynecomastia surgery is usually performed by plastic surgeons and usually involves liposuction and tissue removal procedures.

Gynecomastia surgery is usually performed under local anesthesia or general anesthesia and does not usually require an overnight stay in the hospital. After surgery, it is often recommended to use a supportive dressing or special clothing for a period of time. The recovery process may vary from individual to individual, but normal activities can usually be resumed within a few weeks.

How is Gynecomastia Surgery Performed?

Gynecomastia surgery is a surgical procedure usually performed by plastic surgeons. This surgery is performed to correct breast enlargement in men and usually involves liposuction and tissue removal.

The surgery is usually performed under local anesthesia or general anesthesia. This ensures that the patient is comfortable and pain-free during surgery. The plastic surgeon determines a specific incision location depending on the type of gynecomastia. These incisions can usually be around the nipple, under the breast, or in the armpit. If gynecomastia is caused by fat accumulation, the surgeon removes the excess fat using liposuction. Fat tissue is reached and sucked through a thin tube (cannula). If the cause of breast enlargement is predominantly excess breast tissue, the surgeon will proceed with tissue removal. During this procedure, as much breast tissue as necessary is removed.

After the procedures are completed, the surgeon stitches the incisions. Sutures can often be absorbable (self-dissolving) stitches.
