Liposuction Surgery (Fat Removal)

What is Liposuction Surgery (Fat Removal)?

Liposuction is an aesthetic surgical procedure, known by its medical term, aiming to reduce unwanted fat deposits in the body. This surgery is commonly performed to eliminate fat tissue in areas such as the waist, abdomen, hips, thighs, inner knees, upper arms, and neck. Liposuction involves the surgeon using a thin cannula (tube) to suction or vacuum the fat tissue.

Before the surgery, the patient's overall health is assessed, and plans are made. Liposuction is typically conducted under local anesthesia or sedation. The surgeon makes small incisions to access the targeted areas and reaches the fat tissue through these incisions. Subsequently, fat is suctioned out using a cannula. The extracted fat may be processed by the surgeon for injection or disposed of.

What is Liposuction Surgery (Fat Removal)? How is it Done?

Liposuction is an aesthetic surgical procedure performed to reduce unwanted fat deposits in the body. The surgery typically involves the following steps:

  • Anesthesia Application: Liposuction surgery is usually performed under local anesthesia or sedation (light sleep). The surgeon determines the appropriate anesthesia method to ensure the patient's comfort.
  • Incisions: The surgeon makes small incisions in the areas where fat suction will be performed. These incisions are typically small, ranging from 1 to 3 cm, and are placed in inconspicuous locations whenever possible.
  • Injection of Tumescent Solution: The surgeon injects a special liquid called tumescent solution into the fat tissue to facilitate fat suction and reduce bleeding. This solution usually contains saline, local anesthetic, and adrenaline.
  • Suction of Fat Tissue: The surgeon reaches the fat tissue with a thin cannula (tube) and suctions or vacuums the fat. The cannula carefully shapes the subcutaneous fat layer, creating the desired contour.
  • Suturing Incisions: After the procedure is completed, the surgeon sutures the incisions. Since these stitches are typically small, the scars are minimal.
  • The liposuction procedure can take several hours, but the duration may vary depending on the size of the areas the patient desires, the scope of the surgery, and the techniques applied.
